Exploding Gyoza
May 31, 2007
A term coined by Guillaume, Exploding Gyoza becomes the very first episode of Dumbass Chronicles, a new category I’ve decided to add to my blog.
Yesterday at work, our first ever dumbass decided to heat some food in a plastic container in our new microwaves at work. They were literally installed that morning.
She decides to heat up this tiny plastic container for 10 minutes.
The plastic melts, the food is set aflame.
As I walk up the stairs to the standby room, I see the room filled with white smoke and several staff members opening doors and turning on air conditioners trying to help clear the air a bit. I work for the next hour or so in the office, eyes becoming sore, throat becoming irritated, anger and disbelief enveloping my common sense.
Because of this dumbass’ ability to realize that exciting water molecules in a small plastic container will melt it, super heat the food so that it bursts aflame, the microwaves have now been temporarily suspended from action, resulting in 700 people not having access to the microwaves. Thank you, dumbass.
Future Sight Sealed
May 17, 2007
While I’m on a roll with updating I might as well write about our latest MTG event. The Saturday following the wedding, there was a mini sealed event at my place: 3 Future Sight, 1 Planar Chaos, 1 Time Spiral.
I got a great set of cards and made a UGr (2 Ghostfires, 1 Conflagrate - how could I not splash red?). I pulled an Aeon Chronicler (my bomb for the day), Ancestral Vision, and a couple of back-up card advantage creatures (Citanul Woodreaders for one). It was a rather strange day for wins as the usual pecking order of wins went awry. I went 3-1 in the 1v1s and then did fairly well the DHG as well!
The new set is interesting. There are some cool library effects but as a whole, I’m not as impressed as I was with PC and TS. The new set has some very beautiful art - my favorite is definitely Blind Phantasm. What a beautiful card.

The next event will be a FS Preconstructed with 1 or 2 boosters. That should be quite interesting too.
How A Wedding Caused Podcasting
Last Friday Mike and Akiyo finally ceremoniously tied the knot at the all too wonderful Sumiyoshi-taisha. It was a very beautiful Japanese wedding with a really awesome reception. Later that night the woman and I MC’d the nijikai and had a great time. Congratulations to those two. Pictures pending permission from the bride and groom.
At the nijikai, the lady won an iPod shuffle! I swore I’d never buy an iPod but if it’s given as a gift, well I don’t see the harm in that. The lady “let” me use it and I’ve been playing with podcasts and iTunes ever since. I really like that tiny 1 sq. inch sized, 1GB piece of machinery.
Finally, with an iPod, I subscribed to Streamlink to listen Coast to Coast AM, still going strong after all these years with George Noory and Art Bell. With dozens of shows archived away, I’ve been struggling to find time to listen to everything. I’m managing to eke about 4, 40 minute clips a day, from my waking moments to the last conscious moments (I go to sleep listening to it). It’s great!
