Starstruck

April 26, 2005

Today I had the pleasure of teaching a rather famous person in Japan. I don’t speak Japanese so well but having the toob on most of the time to break the silence really gets me into the entertainment world. I know this famous person is on TV pretty much everyday in a commercial or variety show. It will be my claim to fame (after being the voice in some of the lessons). In all honesty, I was rather starstruck for this lesson. I haven’t been nervous like this in a long time. For someone so well respected in the entertainment industry, she was really down to earth and a lot of fun to speak with. She did great!

For my nihongo-capable friends, here’s her official site - you may recognize her.

Wow, you taught Wada Akiko! That’s great…how’s her English? I once served a beer at the Nat to Gary Sinese.

She speaks a lot better than she leads herself to believe.

I heard Gary Sinese is a really nice guy. Any comment?

Gary Sinise seems pretty nice. I don’t know, he was fairly involved in watching the ball game. He was sitting with Deenis Farina, who doesn’t seem so nice since he’s an ex-cop turned actor. But Sinise tipped me 5 bucks American on a beer that cost 5 bucks Canadian. I’d say that’s pretty nice…

The closest I’ve ever gotten to fame was teaching the C.E.O. of Calbi company, you know they make those famous shrimp chips.(used to always eat’em growing up between Hawaii and San Francisco) The whole lesson I kept thinking “mmm…I should go buy some on my lunch break”.
